The 298 operates on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from West Bridgford to Heanor, with two journeys in each direction serving many towns along the way. It was introduced at the end of summer 2024 as a 'shopper' type service to connect towns that would otherwise require awkward changes or travelling via the city centre.

Both the 298 and 299 were introduced at the beginning of the 2024-25 academic year alongside the new 555 school service and more efficient re-timings of the Boots factory shuttles. The 'shopper' routes make use of the bus and driver in between the school and factory runs, so are usually run by a double decker.
